What Is The Change Oil Light And How To Fix Them?

The change oil light (also known as the maintenance light) is one of the numerous indication lights that modern automobiles have to alert owners when something needs to be done. Based on the car’s odometer reading, this light is designed to alert you when the engine oil needs to be changed. Even after the old oil has been emptied and new oil has been supplied, the Change Oil Light will not turn off on its own. That’s where the oil change light needs to be reset. It’s not mean that every vehicle has an oil change light, but if yours has one, it’s worth resetting, and not only because it’s annoying to see the light on all the time. Your vehicle will not be able to notify you what the next step is unless the light is reset, there is no way you can know when an oil change is needed

What Does The Oil Change Light Mean?

The oil reset light on the dashboard is necessary on most recently made vehicles. It should also feature a computer that tracks the number of miles you drive at regular intervals and alerts you when it’s time to replace the oil. When the engine light blinks after you’ve been driving for a while, it means it’s time to change the oil or filter.

Most current vehicles include two oil-related lights: one indicates the time it will take to replace the oil, and the other indicates that the oil pressure level is low. You may need a car diagnostic tool with an Oil Reset function to diagnose these issues since it will read and display the codes for you.

What Does The Oil Change Light Mean?

When you start your vehicle, the oil service light should come on for around two seconds before turning off. If this light continues to illuminate, it indicates that your vehicle needs an oil or filter change. Before going off, a car with an in-cabin messaging system will display the oil life in percentages ranging from 10% to 100% in the center of the dash for around five seconds.

The messaging system will display an “oil change due” message when the oil life is low or approaches 0%. Unless the oil or filter is replenished, the oil message system will not reset, and the oil light will remain on. This light may also illuminate if the oil pressure in the engine is too high.

You may be tempted to do this at home, but an engine that has lost oil pressure or requires an oil change demands prompt attention. When there is adequate oil and pressure, the oil will be injected into the tubes on a constant basis, lubricating them. Low oil pressure can also be caused by a failure of the oil pump or if anything blocking the system.

What should we do if The Oil Change Light Turn On?

When the oil service light illuminates while you’re driving, it implies the oil pressure in your car’s engine has reduced. When moving, an engine requires a steady flow of oil to keep its parts oiled. Driving without correcting this problem could result in catastrophic engine damage. If your oil service light comes on, take the essential steps to protect your car.

Pulling over to the side of the road and turning off your vehicle’s engine is one of the steps to do. Then, using a car diagnostic tool with a reset feature, diagnose the oil light issue and, if necessary, clear the codes. Otherwise, get assistance from car repair professionals who will take care of the problem. Avoid letting your engine go too long without oil, as this might cause damage.

Once you’ve safely pulled over to the side of the road, use the dipstick to check the oil level. Remove the dipstick from the engine compartment and wipe the oil off the indicator with a napkin or rag. If the oil level is low after wiping out the dipstick, check it again.

Look for evidence of leaking if the level isn’t right. If the oil level has decreased drastically, it could indicate that the car is leaking or that the engine has burned out the oil owing to internal leakage. If oil is trickling down, it signifies the gasket has broken or the oil filter has not been securely fastened.

If there isn’t a leak, it’s likely that there’s an issue with oil pressure. Refill if the oil level is low, and if the oil light has gone off, check it again. Make sure you’re using the proper oil and that you fill it up until the dipstick indication says it’s full.
